Things for Recruiters to Consider During the Job Offer
Things for Recruiters to Consider During the Job Offer As a recruiter, your job is to find the perfect candidate for a company. While a booming job market is great for business, it can present a challenge for finding longtime hires. After all, with more opportunity comes more turnover. Millennials especially have high turnover rates at jobs. In fact, a study by Gallup revealed that 21% of millennials have switched jobs in the past year and another 43% plan to leave their current job sometime in the next two years. If you find a candidate that the company is excited to hire, youâll want to make sure to tailor your offer to the candidate and what theyâve expressed is most important to them during the interview process. After all, getting an offer is both exciting and overwhelming for candidates, as it can take hours for them to review the benefits to find out what the true value of the offer is. Here are some things to mention during the job offer: 1. Quantifiable Benefits: This one seems obvious. Youâll, of course, mention the salary when you make an offer a new recruit. But you can take it a step further knowing some market information. If the role is offering above the city average, say so to the candidate. Youâll also want to explain any bonus, commission or stock options as clear as possible, in case the recruit has never had an offer that included those benefits so they donât fully understand the value. Another great place to sell your candidate is on the benefits package, trusting that the company does, of course, have some good selling points. Find out where the benefits package is strongest and sell candidates on that! 2. Non-quantifiable Benefits: To a lot of millennials, non-quantifiable benefits are just as valuable as quantifiable ones when theyâre deciding whether or not to accept an offer. Make sure to discuss with your candidate what future growth opportunities in the company look like. Also, if the company offers flexible work hours, good work-life balance, and a company culture that aligns with the candidate, make sure to mention this and try to attach value. For example, two work from home days will save money on gas, the time during the commute, and gift employees with a peace of mind they may not have gotten at their old company. If you are recruiting for a company that is on the rise or has a consistently good market standing, this is also important to mention. Stability is a great asset for potential hires. If your company has been facing a downturn, frame it to your candidate as a way they can come in and make a big impact. 3. Additional Benefits Worth Mentioning: Sometimes an offer is worth more depending on the additional benefits. For example, student loan repayment and relocation reimbursement can directly put more money in your candidates pocket! If the company you are recruiting for offers business travel, let the candidate know that they can build up travel points to save money on personal travel later down the road. 4. Unusual Work Perks: A lot of companies offer hidden work perks, and these benefits can go a long way with candidates who share the same passion and values. For example, Bumble offers on-site manicures and blowouts and Patagonia lets employees surf during work hours when there are good waves. Military Transition Assistance
Military Transition Assistance John Durfee wrote to me recently about his experience in transitioning from Gunnery Sargent to business. John, like many veterans, found that choosing a new career was a daunting task. It certainly wasnât the piece of cake that the U.S. Army ads made it seem. âThey made it look easy; a female soldier in fatigues running across a training course, and then she morphs into a business executive holding a attaché case. Looks easy right?â Without the special effects, itâs a longer challenge for most vets. When I asked John what resources had been the most helpful, he introduced me to the Tip of the Arrow Foundation. Tip of the Arrow Foundation (TOA) is a not-for-profit organization providing career counseling transition assistance for Americas military veterans. TOA is staffed by volunteers from human resource and business, many of whom are military veterans themselves. They work hand in hand with community, governmental, and business leaders to prepare veterans for civilian careers. John also sought advice from family and friends, sitting down for serious heart to heart talks with family members about options. âIt was probably one of the most difficult things to do,â John says, âas I didnât want to seem vulnerable. But I needed some advice and support from the most important people to me. It was uncomfortable at first, but after a while, we were able to lay out a plan. They let me know that they were proud of me for what I did, that they respected my decision making skills and integrity in my reasons for not re-enlisting.â Monster.com, the online job search engine, offers an online career transition center for military members. In addition to providing resources for active duty members and their families, Military.com provides information on education, military benefits, and stories of other veterans whove already made the move to civilian jobs. Monsterâs online community t Military.com allows active duty members and retirees to connect, list active duty accomplishments, and use military connections to help land a job after leaving the service. Monster says that over ten million people have joined the network. In the end, John chose a career that related to what he knew from his military training and would keep him interested. He found a position that used his skills in military simulation games like paintball and airsoft, as well as firearms. Heâs now a manager for Airsoft target=_blankAirsplat, the nations largest retailer of Airsoft Guns including Spring Airsoft Rifles.

10 Social Platforms Best Suited for Building Your Brand - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
10 Social Platforms Best Suited for Building Your Brand - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career What is your favorite social media platform for enhancing your personal brand and why? The following answers are provided by members of Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC), an invite-only organization comprised of the worlds most promising young entrepreneurs. In partnership with Citi, YEC recently launched BusinessCollective, a free virtual mentorship program that helps millions of entrepreneurs start and grow businesses. 1. Facebook For us, Facebook has always had the highest level of engagement, and reaches the broadest audience. Its also allowed us to have more personal conversations with our customers, and given us an opportunity for creating real connections with those individuals. Its also worked as a support platform, and has helped us streamline that process tremendously. Blair Thomas, eMerchantBroker 2. Instagram Visuals are the best way to connect with people and make a lasting impression. I like that I can share personal images on Instagram and a story behind the image. Itâs the best platform for connecting with people on a more personal level, and giving them an inside look at who I am as a person and professional. Stanley Meytin, True Film Production 3. LinkedIn I think LinkedIn is a tremendous tool for shaping your personal brand. You can use it for basic information and experience, but then you can participate in groups, as well as publish articles and press that further define who you are as an entrepreneur or thought leader. Cynthia Johnson, Ipseity Media 4. Medium Its hard to communicate who you are in a status update. Its much easier to give a glimpse into who you are through a more detailed blog post. Medium is a great platform to enhance your personal brand, because content has a longer shelf life, and content is easier to discover through search. Pick a topic youd like to brand yourself with, post consistently about the topic and enhance your brand. Brett Farmiloe, Markitors Digital Marketing Company 5. Pinterest Pinterest has been a huge asset for our company. We know the demographics is almost all women and have been able to create content and engage with the women audience. It is easy to see what is working and what does not work based on how many saves you get. Chris Gronkowski, Ice Shaker 6. Podcasting While most people think of social media as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and Snapchat, you may want to look to promote your personal brand to the millions of people who listen to podcasts. Applications like iTunes, Soundcloud, Stitcher and Spotify allow you to elevate yourself above the noise of normal social media, and create a brand conveying professionalism and authority every week. Matt Wilson, Under30Experiences 7. Snapchat The informality of the Snapchat channel makes for a great avenue for people to engage with their audience and enhance their personal brands. Because the Snapchat technology is designed around instant, real and transparent communication, either with photos with filters or videos, people can speak their brand effectively without over-thinking their message and coming across as corporate. Diego Orjuela, Cables Sensors 8. Twitter Twitter is a great platform to share articles and content that you create. Twitter rewards those with unique, interesting content in the form of followers, which ultimately helps create a personal brand. Hashtags also make it easy to find new content to read and share. Syed Balkhi, OptinMonster 9. Quora Being active on Facebook and Twitter is basically a requirement these days. But when it comes to my favorite platform, it has to be Quora. Answering questions is great mental exercise that promotes your business and yourself. Every answer you post wont be directly related to your business or industry, but theyll all build your brand while helping others. Andrew Saladino, Kitchen Cabinet Kings 10. YouTube YouTube has established itself as the place to build a personal brand with a loyal following. As long as you have good, unique content that people want to see, the subscribers will follow organically. Once you start getting traction on YouTube, you will find that the same people will search for you on your other social media channels. Jared Atchison, WPForms

How to cope with self-doubt
How to cope with self-doubt A very major publication just reviewed my friends book. The reviewer loved the book and as I read the review, each laudatory sentence makes me more ill. I feel an overwhelming moment of self-doubt coming on. I get sweaty and my heart pounds and I feel like the world will end if I dont have sugar. My moments of self-doubt always begin with the panic that I will not do anything important in my life. I panic that I will not even figure out what is important, let alone do it. Then I have flashbacks to all the teachers who wrote, Penelope is bright, but she does not work up to her potential. Tonight I am so upset I cant even finish my stack of reading. I fear I will read somewhere in my pile that the Nobel Prize committee has decided to make 100 simultaneous awards and they are all to people I know and now everyone I ever talk to will have a Nobel Prize and I wont. Tonight I am worrying that other people have greatness and there is a finite amount of greatness and it is slipping out of my hands. Also, it is embarrassing to admit to wanting greatness knowing that there is a risk that I will not achieve it. To calm myself down I eat some Oreos and as the double-stuffness clears my mind, I remember the aspects of my friends life that are so destroyed that not even an outstanding book review will help: 1. He has been married for fifteen years and cheated on his wife about fifteen times. 2. His mother is overbearing and controlling and spent his book advance on purchases that will not improve her life, or his. 3. His wifes friends hate him so much for his arrogance they do not talk to him. 4. His dog does not play well with others and you cant teach old dogs new tricks. Okay. There. I am feeling better already. So I sit down to do the only thing that can make things better: I do my job. I am sure that the best way to face self-doubt is to push through it. I remind myself that this guy had writers block for six months, and nearly lost his whole book contract because he wasnt meeting deadlines. He ran out of money three months before he delivered the book and he lived off credit cards, hoping that the book would sell so well that he would earn over and above the initial advance. He pushed himself in the face of failure and even bet on himself a second time. I can do that. With a clear head I know that everyone who has wild success is someone who had to eat a box of Oreos. Everyone has her moments of huge self-doubt, often in the face of someone elses grand success. But there is not finite success in the world. There is just a finite amount of people who can stomach the pain of wanting success so much. So tonight I stomach pain. I put the book review on my fridge to remind myself that my friend pushed through his own self-doubt and garnered laudatory reviews from his peers. I sit down to write another column, and eventually my self-doubt dissipates. It always does.

Show Off Your Awesome Accomplishments
Show Off Your Awesome Accomplishments Sometimes, in an effort to avoid being called a showoff, you end up hiding or downplaying many of your achievements. Showoffs arent appreciated in a world that favors humility (whether it is real or not). But without making your successes visible, youll end up missing out on important opportunities that go only to the bold. Developing a CV full of achievements might seem the best way to signal your expertise, but if youre applying for a job, this wont get you the best result. The resume is your vehicle of choice. Employers search for candidates who out-perform the requirements of their job title. You can signal that by your career wins on your resume. It may be as small as a team win or as large as putting together a deal to take over a rival company. Regardless of the size of the size of the accomplishment, certain things must be kept in mind when choosing what to highlight in your resume. First brainstorm all the possible achievements youve had throughout your career. Begin with the oldest job first. Make sure you have at least one accomplishment for each position. Never think you dont have one it just means you need to dig a little deeper. Example accomplishments include: Completing tasks on time Team wins Meeting project deadlines Finding ways to save costs Never take your accomplishments for granted. This isnt the time to be humble; you dont want to miss opportunities because you were waiting for later to show your best stuff. Everything is evaluated. Recruiters(such as Rekruttering) see your future successes through the your past work. Keeping your resume updated with accomplishments throughout your career create a good first impressionwhich will cause a recruiter to want to know more. Dont exaggerate. Yes. It is important to market yourself and your successesbut that doesnât mean exaggerating them. Portray yourself and your expertise in handling tough challenges without overdoing it. If you try to puff yourself up by going overboard, then your true accomplishments will no longer be believed. The purpose of clearly highlighting your achievements is to interest the employer not to just brag (which will cause them to pass on you). Your goal in writing a resume is to convey the real you. Help them connect with you then the recruiter will do the rest to promote you into the position. Let your hard work speak for itself. A recruiter looks for someone who will take on challenges and will tackle them with dedication and hard work. They are turned off by those who take the easy way out or oversell themselves. Saying, âThat was a piece of cake.â will push you to the bottom of the candidate list. But instead using, âI worked dedicatedly towards the goal and achieved a specific milestone.â will come across much better. If times were tough, say so. Call out your successes overcoming obstacles in order to get a result. Your resumeâs worth will be enhanced when you show how you manage the obstacles in an exceptional way. Coupled with your hard work, ensure youre giving credit to the team behind each success. Every big achievement involves a group of dedicated team members. Crediting them means you can deliver not just as an individual performer, but also on a team. And who youre up for any challenge. One final thing Before you wrap up your resume, link your past experiences to the benefit your organization received from that accomplishment. So they can connect that to how youll do things in the next job. Communicating key benefits along with your accomplishments helps the recruiter be more confident in recommending you for the role. It gives them something tangible to support their suggestion that you be hired for the role. Stating accomplishments doesnât mean you provide a five-page, detailed listing of everything that happened over your career. You still must get to the point and use high-impact verbs to emphasize an achievement, rather than tell your entire story. This is no place to use flowery language or big words focus on action verbs such as âtransformedâ or âchampionedâ to deliver your point. When youre done your resume should give the impression that you will be a valuable hire who will not only deliver through their own hard work but also is willing to highlight the companys impact as well.

How to Attract the Attention of Powerful People
How to Attract the Attention of Powerful People 7 Flares 7 Flares This is a guest post by Jonathan Crossfield, for more information visit Robert Half Recruitment Melbourne. Ever wondered why certain people always seem to have the ear of the boss? Or how they always appear to stumble across great career opportunities? A wise man once said that you make your own luck in this world. So how do you get noticed by the right people with the power to help your career? Contribute in meetings Most of us sit through meetings as a routine part of office life. However, if you want to continue being invited to contribute, you must contribute in the first place. Instead of seeing meetings as wastes of time and sitting passively in the corner checking your emails, take part in the discussions and donât be afraid to brainstorm ideas. Help the meeting achieve its positive outcome and the boss will remember. Networking To be noticed, you have to get yourself out there. Stop skipping the office drinks on a Friday. Grab those opportunities to attend conferences and industry events. Join industry groups and get involved. Shake hands! Speak up! Swap cards! The right people arenât going to seek you out, so create as many opportunities as possible for you to cross paths. Social networking You can also build a strong online presence through blogging or social media activity. This gives you an opportunity to showcase your ideas and expertise. As your posts and updates begin to attract an interested following, you may develop a positive reputation. Eventually, you may find powerful people start following you and possibly even replying or commenting. Have solutions, not problems Finding fault in things is not a special skill. Itâs too easy to criticize. Itâs much harder to approach problems as opportunities, turning a negative into a positive. This is true whether youâre struggling with an office process or blogging on broader issues in the industry. Outlining an improvement or solution and â" where possible â" taking responsibility for implementing it creates trust and tells those in power that you have business success in mind, not just your own convenience.
